Physio is our core treatment at The Artemis Clinic which was established in 2006. When we first opened our sole purpose was to provide physiotherapy in West Wickham, Bromley near Beckenham.
Our clients can expect a hands-on approach to physio in West Wickham just a short drive from Bromley & Beckenham, with years of clinical experience, our chartered physiotherapist effectively treats and guides recovery using a combination of methods.
What treatments are utilised during a physiotherapy session will depend on how a client presents. Those in acute pain will often be offered pain relief via ultrasound and acupuncture with advice on how to manage the pain on a day to day basis while the episode is ongoing. Those with more chronic problems often benefit from a combination of manual therapy, stretching and strengthening exercises, sporting and posture advice.
A frequent complaint is muscular stiffness and pain in the neck and back as a result of prolonged sitting. Part of our service is to email clients a tailored home exercise programme which would typically include neck and back stretches, posture advice for standing and sitting and how to sit correctly in front of a computer.
The clinic receives referrals from local consultants and GPs with whom we liaise closely to ensure clients receive timely and optimal care. There is no additional charge for correspondence to medical professionals regarding our clients care.
We offer appointments six days a week and aim to book same day appointments when required. The clinic offers a local and easily accessible alternative for those who wish to avoid the wait associated with NHS physiotherapy. In many cases problems (both acute and long standing) can be resolved in just 2-3 sessions.
At The Artemis Clinic we see clients for a wide range of musculo-skeletal problems, the most common of which are:
A detailed history of your presenting condition will be taken, this will be followed by a physical assessment to facilitate diagnosis.
Once a diagnosis has been reached the findings and appropriate treatment plan will be discussed with you. Treatment is always incorporated into the initial consultation and only goes ahead with the consent of the client. The most comfortable treatment methods for our clients are always used.
If it is felt the client would benefit from a diagnostic scan or consultant referral, the client will be referred to the appropriate specialist or guided as to how to facilitate this.
We also help clients with the management of chronic pain. The reasons for the pain may be varied and often include issues such as osteoarthritis, headache, fibromyalgia and chronic back pain.
If a new client presents to the clinic with chronic pain, during the initial consultation and following assessment, the treatment plan will be discussed. Three treatment sessions will generally be advised to begin with. If the treatment is going to help relieve the chronic symptoms the benefits will be felt after three sessions. In such cases, it is often advised to continue with treatment and to begin to increase the time between appointments.
If there is no benefit following three treatment sessions, there is unlikely to be one and we tend to discourage continuing with physiotherapy. We take this approach to protect our clients from receiving unnecessary treatment as we (or any other practitioner) are unable to guarantee results with chronic pain.
If an issue is beyond or not within the scope of physiotherapy, we will direct the client, with a referral letter if necessary, to the appropriate doctor or consultant. There is no additional charge for correspondence to medical professionals regarding our clients care.
The most commonly used treatment techniques at the clinic include:
All treatment methods are discussed with clients before commencing treatment. Often a combination of the above are used in one treatment session. If a client is unsure or uncomfortable with any treatment (acupuncture for example), another treatment method is used instead.
Payment may be made by credit card or cash.

I have visited Elaine on and off for the last year and have to say she is great. I have struggled with my back for many years and have visited many other clinics both private and NHS. I can honestly say Elaine is the only one who has managed to locate the pain and give me lasting results. She is warm and friendly and full of great advice. I would have no hesitation in recommending Elaine and the Artemis Clinic.T.J
We cannot speak highly enough of Elaine’s knowledge and professionalism. She is very understanding of her patient’s situation and is kind and compassionate.L.G.
The clinic has a lovely atmosphere and staff are very friendly. Texts are sent to remind you of appointments which was great. Have seen Elaine for an on-going problem with my back, she was very experienced and provided me with helpful information. Would certainly recommend.S.C
