Physiotherapy

Musculo-skeletal (MSK) physiotherapists treat acute and chronic problems arising from issues with the spine, discs, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, cartilage, joints and lower limb biomechanics.

At The Artemis Clinic, our experienced chartered physiotherapist will provide you with a comprehensive assessment and treatment programme which will take into account your lifestyle and sporting activities. With over twenty years of clinical experience, you are ensured a professional, hands-on approach to treatment.

In addition to self referrals, the clinic receives referrals from local consultants and GPs, with whom we liaise regarding status updates and various investigative requests. There is no additional charge for correspondence with medical professionals regarding our client’s care.

Located above Lloyds Pharmacy on West Wickham High Street, we offer chartered physiotherapy services six days a week and aim to book same day appointments when required. The clinic offers an easily accessible alternative for those who wish to rapidly access comprehensive physiotherapy treatment, with clients attending from West Wickham, Beckenham, Bromley and surrounding areas.

Typical conditions treated at the clinic are:

  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Ankle sprains
  • Sports injuries
  • Disc bulge
  • Spinal degeneration
  • Shoulder pain
  • Tennis/golfers elbow
  • Knee pain
  • Shin splints
  • Posture issues
  • Neuralgia
  • Muscle strain
  • Arthritis
  • Degenerative disc disease

A detailed history of your presenting condition will be taken, followed by a thorough physical assessment.

Once a working diagnosis has been achieved, the findings and treatment plan will be discussed. Treatment is incorporated into the initial consultation and only proceeds with the client’s consent. The most comfortable treatment methods for our clients are always used.

Home exercises for stretching, strengthening and posture are typically a core aspect of the treatment plan. These will be emailed to clients (with their consent) via our bespoke home exercise rehabilitation programme.

If a diagnostic scan or consultant referral is required, the client will be referred to the appropriate service or specialist. There is no additional charge for referrals or correspondence with medical professionals regarding our client’s care.

We assist clients with the management of chronic pain due to conditions such as osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease, spinal disease, neuralgia, PMRS, headache, fibromyalgia, and chronic mechanical back pain.

During the initial consultation, a history of the presenting condition will be taken, followed by a physical assessment and a discussion of the the treatment plan. Treatment is incorporated into the initial consultation and only proceeds with the client’s consent.

Due to the challenging nature of chronic pain management, no more than three treatment sessions are advised at the initial consultation. Three sessions are sufficient to ascertain whether treatment is going to be effective. If it is, clients are advised to continue with treatment and increase the interval between appointments, as is appropriate to their symptoms. If there is no benefit after three sessions, there is unlikely to be one, and we advise against continuing with treatment.

If an issue is beyond the scope of physiotherapy, we will direct the client, with a referral letter if necessary, to the appropriate consultant or service. There is no additional charge for correspondence with medical professionals regarding our clients care.

A physiotherapy treatment session will often incorporate the following techniques:

  • Manual therapy
  • Joint mobilisation
  • Deep tissue massage
  • Trigger point therapy
  • Ultrasound therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Posture advice and retraining
  • Exercise and sports advice
  • Stretches & strengthening exercises
  • Ergonomic advice
  • Relaxation advice
  •

Treatment methods are proposed and discussed with clients before each session. Often a combination of the above are used in one treatment session.

Home exercises for stretching, strengthening and posture are typically a core aspect of the treatment plan. These will be emailed to clients (with their consent) via our bespoke home exercise rehabilitation programme.

It is important for clients to be relaxed relaxed and comfortable with all aspects of their treatment. If a client prefers to not have a particular treatment (acupuncture for example), an alternative is used instead.

    • Initial consultation including treatment £47 (30mins)
    • Follow-up sessions £42 (30mins)

With over twenty four years of clinical practice, our chartered physiotherapist brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the treatment session.

I have visited Elaine on and off for the last year and have to say she is great. I have struggled with my back for many years and have visited many other clinics both private and NHS. I can honestly say Elaine is the only one who has managed to locate the pain and give me lasting results. She is warm and friendly and full of great advice. I would have no hesitation in recommending Elaine and the Artemis Clinic.

We cannot speak highly enough of Elaine’s knowledge and professionalism. She is very understanding of her patient’s situation and is kind and compassionate.

The clinic has a lovely atmosphere and staff are very friendly. Texts are sent to remind you of appointments which was great. Have seen Elaine for an on-going problem with my back, she was very experienced and provided me with helpful information. Would certainly recommend.
