Electrolysis is a form of hair removal that uses very a fine, sterile probe with electric current to cauterise and destroy each individual hair follicle. Following a course of treatment the hair is unable to reproduce resulting in permanent hair removal.
Unlike IPL and Laser treatments, electrolysis removes hair of any colour including white and grey. Electrolysis is often used in conjunction with IPL and Laser to remove hairs that are pigment free.
Typical Electrolysis Treatment Areas:
The Consultation:
A course of treatment is typically required to achieve results. The initial consultation will be an opportunity to assess your skin type, discuss your goals and determine how many sessions are required.
Clients are advised to stop using retinol products or chemical exfoliators for three weeks prior to electrolysis. They are also advised to arrive for treatment with make-up free and clean skin.
Treatment:
During treatment there may be a mildly uncomfortable stinging sensation. Clients will have the option of applying EMLA numbing cream prior to attending if they wish.
Following treatment there will likely be redness which typically resolves within 24 hours. There may also be a hot, sunburn type sensation. It is important not to touch or rub the treated area at this stage. Clients are advised not to be in direct sunshine for at least 24 hours after electrolysis.
Aftercare advice is given to all clients following treatment.
An initial consultation is required to assess the hair to be removed. You will be advised at this stage of the number of sessions that will be required to achieve your goals. This will vary in relation to the location and size of the treatment area.
