Clinical Assessment & Surgical Removal of Common Skin Lesions

We provide expert minor surgery for benign lumps, cysts, and skin growths in our CQC-registered clinical suite. All procedures are performed under local anaesthetic by an experienced doctor, with laboratory histology included as standard practice.

    Sebaceous & Epidermoid Cysts

Cysts are fluid- or keratin-filled sacs that develop beneath the skin, commonly on the scalp, neck, face, and back.

    • Why Removal is Needed: While benign, cysts can enlarge, become tender, or develop recurring infections.
    • Surgical Excision: Complete removal of both the cyst contents and the entire outer sac wall (capsule) under local anaesthetic to prevent recurrence.

    Lipomas (Benign Fatty Lumps)

Lipomas are soft, movable fatty growths located between the skin and underlying muscle layer, frequently found on the torso, shoulders, neck, and limbs.

    • Why Removal is Needed: Lipomas can grow over time, cause discomfort when pressing on surrounding nerves, or become cosmetically bothersome.
    • Surgical Excision: Careful surgical dissection to remove the intact fatty lump through a minimal incision.

    Moles & Raised Blemishes

    • Shave Excision: Ideal for raised, protruding benign moles. The lesion is precisely planed level with the surrounding skin under local anaesthetic—fast-healing with no stitches required.
    • Full Surgical Excision: Used for deeper or flatter lesions, removing the lesion with a neat margin, closed with fine sutures for optimal aesthetic healing.

    Other Minor Surgical Procedures

We also provide assessment and removal for dermatofibromas, stubborn warts, and ingrown toenails (partial or total surgical nail avulsion).

    A Comfortable, Step-by-Step Surgical Journey

All minor surgical procedures at The Artemis Clinic are performed in our dedicated clinical suite using sterile, hospital-grade protocols to ensure complete comfort, precision, and the best aesthetic outcomes.

    Your Treatment Process:

    • Clinical Assessment & Local Anaesthetic: Dr Fraser examines the lesion, marks the incision site along natural skin tension lines, and administers a localized anaesthetic to ensure the area is completely numb throughout the treatment.
    • Precise Excision: For cysts, the entire capsule wall is removed intact to prevent regrowth. For lipomas, the fatty tissue is carefully dissected through a minimal incision. For raised moles, a shave excision planes the lesion level with surrounding skin.
    • Closure & Dressing: The wound is meticulously closed using fine cosmetic sutures or surgical adhesive to minimize visible scarring, followed by a sterile protective dressing.
    • Laboratory Histology: In line with best clinical governance, excised tissue samples are sent to an accredited UK histology laboratory for peace-of-mind pathology verification.

    Recovery & Aftercare Guidelines:

    • Immediate Recovery: You can return home immediately following the procedure. Most patients return to light, routine daily activities the same or following day.
    • Wound Care: Keep the dressing clean and dry for the first 48 hours. Detailed post-operative cleansing instructions are provided before you leave clinic.
    • Suture Removal: If non-dissolvable stitches are used, they are typically removed in clinic 7–10 days post-procedure (included in your care).
    • Scar Maturation: A minor incision line will heal gradually over several weeks. We provide clear guidance on scar care and sun protection to ensure optimal long-term results.

Can I have more than one cyst or lipoma removed in the same appointment?

Yes. Where clinically appropriate, Dr Fraser can remove multiple lesions in a single session. We offer a 20% saving on the surgical procedure fee for secondary and subsequent lesions treated at the same time. (Note: This reduction applies to the procedure fee and excludes independent laboratory histology charges where separate tissue analysis is required).

Is the £95 consultation fee deducted from the procedure cost?

Yes. If removal is recommended and you book your procedure within four weeks of your consultation, your £95 consultation fee is credited in full against the procedure cost.

Will the sample be sent for laboratory testing (histology)?

Yes. It is best clinical practice to send excised cyst capsules or tissue specimens for independent laboratory analysis (histology) to verify the diagnosis and ensure complete removal. All lab costs are clearly outlined in your treatment plan prior to surgery.

Why is histology (laboratory testing) required if another doctor or an ultrasound has already confirmed my lesion is benign?

Patient safety and rigorous clinical governance are at the heart of our medical practice. While a previous GP assessment, clinical opinion, or ultrasound scan provides helpful diagnostic context, imaging and visual checks cannot replace histological analysis.

An ultrasound evaluates tissue density and depth beneath the skin, but only an accredited pathology laboratory examining the cellular tissue under a microscope can provide definitive confirmation of a lesion’s exact structure, margins, and complete excision.

For your safety and peace of mind, Dr Fraser operates strictly to British medical and surgical standards: histological examination is a mandatory clinical safety standard for all surgical removals at the clinic, with zero exceptions.

What aftercare support is included following my minor surgery appointment?

Every surgical procedure includes comprehensive, dedicated aftercare at no extra charge:

    • Direct Wound Care Guidance: Clear dressing and initial healing protocols tailored to your procedure.
    • Complimentary Follow-Up & Suture Removal: If non-dissolvable sutures were used, your wound check and stitch removal appointments are completely free of charge.
    • Ongoing Post-Procedure Support: We provide open telephone and email access to our clinical team throughout your healing period (within reasonable clinical limits) to review your recovery and answer any questions.

Will I have scarring, and when do stitches come out?

Any surgical excision results in a fine scar, but Dr Fraser uses precise surgical techniques to minimise visible marks. If non-dissolvable sutures are used, suture removal and wound review are included in your aftercare package.
