What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are soft, clear, synthetic gels made from hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance that provides volume to the skin. When injected beneath the skin’s surface, dermal fillers act by binding to water molecules and help maintain volume. This is the method by which they effectively restore plumpness and volume to the skin.

Restylane and Juvederm are the hyaluronic acid dermal fillers used in the clinic. They are both established brands which hold the clinical data to support their positions as market leaders in this field. Both products are extremely advanced and can adapt to tissue types to integrate seamlessly, enhancing natural expression and giving long lasting results. With over 200 brands of dermal fillers now on the market, cheaper alternatives are unlikely to come with the same levels of clinical research, safety and effectiveness.

Why Have Dermal Filler Treatment?

A common sign of ageing is a loss of facial volume, which, combined with muscle activity, can lead to the development of wrinkles, lines and sagging. Injecting dermal fillers can re-contour the face and give a smoother, fuller appearance to the nasolabial folds (lines between the nose and mouth), cheeks, jawline, and lips. Medium to deep lines, wrinkles and facial depressions can be filled to achieve nearly immediate and remarkable results.

Applied by an experienced practitioner, dermal fillers can subtly rejuvenate the following areas –

  • Cheeks and Mouth: Folds, lines and creases may be addressed by the careful administration of dermal fillers to effectively restore symmetry, volume and shape.
  • Lip Augmentation: Dermal fillers can enhance not only the size, but also the proportion and projection of the lips.
  • Jaw Line: Dermal fillers can be used to achieve a more defined, angular jaw line.

Consultation and Treatment:

A detailed initial consultation is key to ensuring great results. We offer a complimentary consultation with Mr Hodges in order to discuss what you would like to achieve, be assessed and establish a treatment plan to help you realistically achieve your goals.

The administration of dermal fillers involves a series of injections, using fine needles, into the the targeted area. Local anaesthetic is contained in the dermal fillers to reduce any discomfort during the procedure. There may be some redness and swelling post-treatment, however, this usually subsides after a few hours. Occasionally there may be bruising at the injection site.

Clients receive treatment specific aftercare advice sheets and are advised to contact the clinic if they have any queries following their treatment. We offer free post treatment reviews should any clients wish to discuss their results with the consultant.

Results:

The results will be obvious immediately following the procedure, however, it usually takes up to two weeks for the area to settle and the results to be fully effective. Due to the quality of the products used in the clinic, the benefits of the injections typically last for up to six months. Some may find their results last for much longer.

Clients are advised to return to the clinic at six monthly intervals for maintenance appointments. The benefits of dermal fillers are temporary and in the absence of maintenance treatment, will gradually and fully wear off.

Before embarking on non-surgical injectable treatments, the following points should be considered to ensure safe treatment with expected results:

  • Who is doing the treatment, how experienced are they, what is their profession and their qualifications?
  • What products are being used and how established are they? Are the long term effects known? Cheaper treatment prices often mean cheaper products.
  • Where are the treatments being offered? These are medical procedures and the environment in which they are administered should reflect this.
  • Avoid special offers, deals, discount sites and surprisingly cheap prices. It against regulations to offer special offers and discounts in relation to prescribed medicines.

Can I discuss my options with the consultant before committing to treatment?
It is important for clients to be comfortable with all aspects of their treatment prior to proceeding. As such, we offer a complimentary, no obligation consultation with Mr Hodges.

How qualified is the practitioner?

All consultations, treatments and reviews for non-surgical facial injectables are with Mr Spencer Hodges, consultant maxillo-facial surgeon. Mr Hodges has been practicing facial surgery and non-surgical facial rejuvenation for over fifteen years. Our clients can be assured they are in the hands of an experienced specialist of the highest calibre.

What is the quality of the products used for treatment?

The quality of the products used is paramount for safety and to achieve natural, long-lasting results. The products most frequently used at The Artemis Clinic are Allergan’s Botox, Restylane and Juvederm.

Botox, the brand name for botulinum toxin and produced by Allergan, is the original neurotoxin product in the aesthetic market. It remains the highest quality product in this field and is supported by robust clinical evidence including a wealth of double blind placebo controlled clinical trial data. A vast number of patients have been treated with Botox over a long period of time with reproducible and predictable outcomes.

What happens to the injected products as the benefits are wearing off?

The botuinum toxin or dermal filler products will gradually be degraded by the body’s own mechanism and disappear without residue.

Is there any after care?

Clients receive treatment specific after care advice sheets and are advised to contact the clinic if they have any queries following treatment. We offer free post treatment reviews should any client wish to discuss their results with the consultant.
